A drum battery tunes its drums by a fire in the street during the parade of Llamadas during Carnaval in Montevideo, Uruguay.
One of the most imporant elements of Carnaval in Uruguay is Candombe, an African drum rhythm played on tambor drums. It was revitalized in the Americas by black slave descendents as a way by which to reclaim their cultural heritage and battle for civil rights.
