Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) affecting the skin on the arm of a 15-year-old black female patient. GPA is a rare disease which causes the walls of the blood vessels to become inflamed. It affects the respiratory system and frequently involves the kidneys, lungs, eyes, ears, throat, skin and other body organs. This patient is being treated in a burns unit as in this condition the skin reacts in a similar way to burned skin. The cause of GPA is unknown, but it is likely to be an autoimmune disorder.
