Huemul doe safely across the stream and grazing on the vegetation, Estero Mallines O Paso las Mulas, Patagonia

I was able to photograph several wild male and female huemul (Hippocamelus bisculcus) in the bush and along the river, near the Estero Mallines O Paso las Mulas, along the Carretera Austral, Patagonia. Less than 1500 of these animals remain in the wild, a 90% reduction in numbers and a 50% reduction in range. Since 2011 they have been protected in Chile and Argentina and their numbers are reported to be increasing a little in Patagonia National Park. All photos were taken on foot in the wild by being quiet and calm and patient and putting no pressure on the animals.
