In the case of LydiaMerton, already mentioned, the head ofthe radius, on the ninety-fourth dayafter the accident, was nearly in thecentre of the humerus. The anteriorand external lateral ligaments, with theannular, are in most cases more or lessbroken. Sometimes the anterior andexternal lateral are alone broken, theannular ligament being then sufficientlystretched to allow of the complete dis-location ; or the anterior and annularhaving given way, the external lateralmay remain In the specimens dissected by Danyau1and Debruyn,2 and also in the specimendeposited by Prestat3 in the DupuytrenMuseum, the annular ligament was nottorn. In a specimen obtained by J. Hil-ton,4 this ligament was only partially torn (Fig. 391), and the head of the radiushad formed for itself a new socket on the front of the humerus. The same is Position of the head of the radius dis-located forward. The head of the radiusrests on the anterior surface of the hume-rus, in the hollow above the externalcondyle, in front of the external con-dyloid ridge. (Pick.) Fig. 391.
