Colombia, San Agustin, Parque Arqueologico de San Agustin or the San Agustin Archaeological Park has many monolithic statues, sarcophagi and tobs. These were made to serve as a link between the living and the dead. The statues from vulcanic rock are 20 cm to 7 meters in size, carved with anthropomorphic figures representing a pantheon of gods and creatures to frighten. Also snakes, frogs and birds are used as figures. Photo: a midwife and the baby that was delivered by a woman who can be seen at the bottem of the works of art display the creativity and imagination of a northern Andean culture that flourished from the 1st to the 8th century.
