EAST CHINA SEA (March 8, 2017) Seaman Jads Orario, of Houston, stands the aft lookout watch on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), while the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Murasame-class destroyer JS Samidare (DD 106) steams alongside. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of 3rd Fleet. Navy aircraft carrier strike groups have patrolled the Indo-Asia-Pacific regularly and routinely for more than 70 years.
