Giant statue of Lenin (Vladimir Illich Ulyanov), demoted from its former prominence, to a backlot in Atyrau City, Kazakhstan

Giant statue of Lenin (Vladimir Illich Ulyanov), was demoted from its former prominence in the city centre, to a backlot in Atyrau City, Kazakhstan at the fall of the Soviet Empire. It is now located in Zhilgorodok in the city suburbs but remains an attractive feature of the city's history. Its size, in relation to its surroundings makes it an impressive sight. In recent years the city has been the focus of an economic boom through the development of large oil and gas reserves in the Caspian Sea. One cannot help but wonder what lenin would have made of it all?
