Prions destroying dendritic cells. Artwork showing prions (multicoloured molecules) entangling in the projections of dendritic cells (yellow), stopping them from working. Dendritic cells are part of the mammalian immune system. Prions are malformed proteins that propagate their malformed nature to other proteins. BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) and CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) are examples of prion-mediated diseases.
