The mould is subsequently broken , each casting involves a fresh mould, which necessarily increases the cost. The cast on being revealed is found to be rough and often very faulty, being honey-combedwith air holes. These have to be plugged with metal, which is usually screwed in, and thewhole work has to be filed, rasped, chased, and finally colored, either with acids or a preparationof wax and bronze powder. Complicated works in bronze are made in pieces, and riveted together; consequently, themodels of such works should be free of irons in the limbs, neck, etc.; otherwise the sections can-not be made without risk of injury to the original.
