He wouldpurchase land, improve the propertv and thensell, so that from time to time he owned a num-ber of different farms. He also owned and op-erated a sawmill. His father, Solomon Hull,was one of the first to settle in this locality andwas also engaged in manufacturing family lias thus been closely associated withthe material progress and substantial upbuildingof Mahaska county. He was greatly interested ir,bee culture, made a close study of the habits ofbees, hunted > ait their hives and made a specialtyof raising honey for the market. He was con-sidered authority upon the subject of bee cul-ture and his apiary was a fine one. Fie diedin 1901 and his wife, still surxiving him, isnow residing in Tobias at the age of eighty-twoyears. Daniel Hull is one of a family-of seven sonsruul fi\e daughters, all of wliom reached adultage. Of this number six sons and three daugh-ters are yet living. Daniel FIull was rearedto manhood in Spring Creek township and re-mained with his father until twenty-two yearsof age. during which time he assisted in de-\eloping and carrying on the home farm.
