Constructed in the 1520s by Sir David Owen on the site of the former Coudreye House which he had acquired upon the death of his wife Mary Bohun in 1496. His son Henry sold the estate in 1529 to Sir William Fitzwilliam. GUY FAWKES was briefly employed here as a footman.
