To make the JSIazama Club of Ore-gon, you must reach the summit ofHood (or some other unridable,glacier-clad peak) under your ownsteam, but to obtain a glorious close-upview of that mountain you have onlyto saunter up Lookout Moun-tain to the east. In the lovelyRobin Hood Forestpublic camping ground. at Three Forks Ranger Station (3,550feet), which is on the Mount HoodLoop road, you spend the night be-fore. Next day you hit the excellentForest Service trail (steep but not diffi-cult), which takes you in five miles tothe 6,525-foot apex of Lookout. Shouldyou never get nearer to sno\vy Hood,you will have had one of the finestviews in all Oregon—the whole eastface of Hood and the lesser, but no lessbeautiful, adjacent Cascade peaks. Although even the hair)-eared onesadmit Hood is a major climb, the rou-tine ascent is not too arduous for usever}-day people, if we are properlyequipped and guided.
