They are all of easiest culture in well-drained soils. For grouping, either by themselves as a class or with other shrubs, they are especially worthy, while the larger-growing forms, used as single specimen plants for the lawn, produce excellent effects. LI. glabra is often used tor sea-shore planting, where it is well adaptetl. R. Canadensis or aromatica. Fragrant Sumach. 1 4 ft. April anil May. A dense, low-growing bush, with hand- some, thick trifoliate foliage, of pleasant fragrance when crushed. Flowers pale yellow, in dense, catkin-like spikes, appearing in advance of the foliage. Choice. 75 cents. R. copallina. [Dwarf Sumach.] 5 ft. .July. Dee]) green, shining pin- nate foliage, assuming splendid autumn coloring. 50 cents. R. Cotinus. [Purple Fringe, or Smoke Tree.] See under Trees. R. glabra. [Smooth Sumach.] 8 ft. June. Handsome, pinnate foli- age, assuming splendid autumn coloring. Showy spikes of crimson fruits. 35 cents. R. glabra var. laciniata. [Cut- leaved Sumach.] A variety with deeply-, cut. fern-like foliage. An elegant plant for groups or the lawn. "5 cents. R. semi-alata var.
