Weigh-In Building balcony with view towards parade ring. York Racecourse, York, United Kingdom. Architect: Phelan Architects, 20
The northern end of the York Racecourse enclosure was laid out in 1908-09 to the designs of Walter Brierley and while there have been additions over the years this is the first comprehensive redevelopment of the area since then. For equine and racegoer safety, the Pre-Parade Ring was relocated and provides new Saddling boxes and a new Weigh-In Building, which in turn releases space to allow for a reordering of the Champagne Lawns with new bars, toilets and back-of-house space. The project is phased to fit with the racing programme with a start on site in September 2013 and a phased partial completion in April 2014 for the racing season and a full completion in April 2015.
