Bolivar Jetty at sunset, Texas. The five mile long North Jetty is located at the entrance to the Houston Ship Channel, across from Galveston Island. It is a mecca for birdwatchers and fishermen. The jetty was built of granite blocks in the 1890's by the Army Corps of Engineers. This jetty plus another one protect the Ship Channel from silting up.
