'The Lottery', : William Hogarth

'The Lottery', 1721. A theatre stage upon which the allegorical figures of virtue and vice perform a production. This was Hogarth's way of criticising the government for raising money by lottery. It is based on Raphael's paintings 'Dispute' and 'School of Athens'.
