Thousands of Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) congregate in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, a state park near Haines, Alaska. An upwelling of warm water in the Chilkat River supports a late spawning of salmon in the area attracting the largest concentration of Bald Eagles in the world. Upwards of 4000 individuals may be seen during the period of October to February.
