Margaret and the saints head and shoulders are generallycarved as coming out of a hole in the centreof the beast, while her heels are just disappear-ing into the dragons mouth. We find thisscene on a capital in the church of Bredforton,Worcestershire, and on the fonts of Cowlamand Gotham, Yorks. On the pedestal ofthe fifteenth century font of Docking, Nor-folk, there are eight female saints, andamong them is S. Margaret with spear anddragon. On the tympanum of Ault Hucknall thedragon is bursting and S. Margaret is issuing 182.
