A group of 7ft high shell ladies on Margate Beach


The Margate Shell Ladies created by sculptor Ann Carrington being lifted onto Margate beach Kent at low tide The 7ft tall ladies made entirely from shells and named after famous and infamous ladies who have personal or literary links with Margate appeared on the streets of Margate Old Town during the summer of 2008 as a tourist attraction. Picture shows the "Countess of Bessborough" centre looking on as "Baroness Orczy" right and "Lady Selina Hastings" are hoisted along the beach.
