Fruit sellers on the beach in Sihanoukville. Sihanoukville, it’s the 4th largest city in Cambodia but it’s really a beachside town, and it is incredible. Originally we had only given ourselves 3 days here, but the day we arrived we extended it to 9, and so glad we did! After the chaos of cities some coastal downtime was in order, and this is one of the coolest places I’ve been. The shore of Serendipity beach is lined with deck chairs and a dozens of restaurants that all look exactly the same, stretching right down the beach for a kilometre. They cater largely western and Khmer meals, most menu’s are pretty much the same. People spend the days lounging around, tanning and getting pampered, swimming, Locals walk down the beach with huge amounts of crayfish or fruit on a platter balanced casually on their heads, or eggs and squid cooking while they walk with wood across their shoulders and pots or coals and a grill either side. Cambodian women stroll along offering massages, manicures and pedicures and hair removal by threading (they remove the hair with string, works as well as waxing! Takes a bit longer though. And kids walk the beaches selling bracelets, hair wraps, key rings, they buy the string at the market and make them all. Some of the kids sell fireworks, not the most reassuring thing seeing a 8year old selling them.
