Chicory Is cultivated chiefly for its roots, which are dried, and used as a substitute or flavoring ingredient forcoffee. The leaves, when blanched, are also esteemed "as an excellent salad. Cultivate as recom- mended for Carrots. ILAKGE ROOTED. Per pkt., 5 cts,, oz., 10 cts.; U lb., 30 cts.: $ UTIT'IiOOF. Sow in June and transplant the roots in October in rows eight inches apart, in trenches one foot deep ; cut off the leaves. Cover the roots with well sifted soil eight inches thick, adding a good layer of manure two to three feet thick. The Witloof will be ready for use in about three weeks.
