These results were in accordance with the geographic origin of specimens. When phenetic relations were established by recognizing three OTUs, another two taxa were introduced into the discriminant analysis. Talpa stankovici was of interest since Todorovic et al. (1972) reported OTUl to possess a "stankovicr karyotype. The same applies to Talpa levantis from Asia Minor, as this species was recently reported in the eastern part of the Balkans (Vohralik 1991).
