Yellow flowers of Welsh Poppy, Meconopsis cambrica, in North Wales Garden where it self seeds freely.

Welsh Poppy, Meconopsis cambrica, Papaveraceae, widely grown as a garden plant. Shown against the background of a privet hedge. Self seeds happily. It is a native of damp, rocky sites in upland areas of Western Europe from the British Isles to the Iberian Peninsula. It has been used since 2006 as the basis for the logo of the Welsh Nationalist political party Plaid Cymru, although the shape of the petals has been somewhat adapted - the flower has 4 overlapping petals, which are more blunt than the styalised version.
