View inside Nether Largie South Neolithic chambered tomb, Kilmartin Glen, Scotland, UK looking NE to the entrance. The Clyde-type gallery grave dates from around 3000BC., its chamber is divided into four compartments by transverse slabs. Deposits of quartz chips & cremated & unburnt human bones were made in association with Neolithic & Beaker pottery. The cairn was reshaped & enlarged to 40m diameter some 1000 years later to accomodate two Bronze Age cists: one SW of the chamber, the other (no longer visible) to the N which contained a Food Vessel. The chamber was excavated & partly reconstructed by Canon Greenwell in 1864. It is the oldest burial monument in a line of five forming a prehistoric linear cemetery in Kilmartin Glen.
