For more thanonce I noticed that some of my John Bullessfriends took out a flower from a vase and wore. SOCIAL LIFE 39 it immediately. If I did not make her wait andwipe the water on the stem, she should spoil herbest new dress. Once I said to her, What wouldyou say to me if I myself splash a drop of wateron your dress ? I do wish I were the flowers ! When I was in Greenwich, I took out that littleJohn Bulless friend to Greenwich Park. We cameout to the heath outside the park, and this littleJohn Bulless saw a very, very old hat thrown awayin a bush. She immediately took off her own capand put that dirty old hat on her head, and said tome, How do I look, Mr. Markino V I scoldedher not to be so naughty. But in fact I was struckvery much by her beauty. She looked perfectlysweet under that dirty hat. It seems to me any-thing would suit John Bullesses so well.
