The octagonal tower is what remains of the castle It is assumed that Chivasso has a Roman origin, although it can not be precisely date its construction. In the Middle Ages it was an important way station along the Via Francigena. Despite having been even a major capital of the Marquis of Monferrato before Casale Monferrato, prospering under this until the XIV century when the Visconti took possession of it. Today is not considered part of the geographic region of Monferrato although they face some justification historically. In the city was signed the Declaration of Chivasso, during the Second World War.
