Comet Nishimura

Comet Nishimura (green, bottom), or C/2023 P1, from Zahradne, Slovakia on the 9th Spetember 2023. Comets are collections of dust and ice that orbit the Sun. As they near the Sun and are warmed they release gas (outgassing) that forms the tail. Amateur astronomer Hideo Nishimura discovered the comet on the 12th August 2023 and it has since been determined that it orbits the Sun roughly every 430 years. It is roughly 1 km in size.
