WINTERSON CO. 45-47-49 Wabash Ave., CHICAGO. St. Louis. STOCK OF POOR QUALITY. The market this week was again crowded with all kinds of flowers. White roses were the only flowers that could be termed scarce in selected stock. Car- nations, especially those of poor quality, were exceedingly plentiful and En- chantress, White and Pink Lawson were sold as low as five cents per bunch in lots. White, pink and red in good stock brought $i per lOO. American Beauty roses were not perhaps quite as plentiful, but quite a few buds arrive now very small and open up very poor- ly. Sweet peas are extremely cheap. Down-town stores are offering two bunches for five cents and, even at these prices, fail to clear out. The commis- sion men have to do the best they can and are hoping for an improvement of some kind, however slight. Fancy ferns are now in but are soft; hardy are down to $ per 1,000. NOTES. The smoker given by the Florists' Club was a very enjoyable affair. Jas. S. Wilson and J. B. O'Neil, of Vaughan's Greenhouses, were guests. Music, liquid refreshments in great va- riety and a general good time were in- dulged in till early morning. Speeches were made by H. Koehrmann, Prof. Irish and Luther Armstrong on old times and the growth of floriculture and its societies in the past 20 years. Henry Lorenz gave his ideas as to the whole- saler and the grower. Everyone was called upon to say something. Fred Ammann and E. W. Guy were also present. The concert at Carr park Friday eve- ning was attended by over 7,000 persons. Fifteen thousand dollars have been ap- propriated for a pavilion and bath house for this park. Patrick Reed is the keeper there and had his hands full cleaning up next morning. A. C. Brown, Springfield, 111., is ship- ping in some extra fine carnations.
