Lieutenant James was charged with theseemingly impossible task of installing andmaintaining wire communications betweena corps headquarters and rapidly advancingdivisions during the Sicilian dogged determination and outstand-ing initiative he led his men through un-swept mine areas, often in the face of hos-tile artillery fire, and on several occasions.
