2nd Lieutenant Carl C. Mayhew of the Infantry took this photograph on November 6, 1919, near Le Morthomme, France. The image shows the bridge and 40 cm. gauge railroad that were blown up by the retreating Germans during World War One. The communication lines were cut, and in the distance, there is a hill with both American and German graves. The photograph captures the road over which American soldiers advanced during the conflict.
