Oceans contribute to the economy of the countries nearby having an impact on transportation, tourism, fishing and communication routes. Threats to the ocean environment,for example, oil spills, toxic wastes from rivers, over fishing and marine debris have caused concern. Efforts to reduce pollution are being addressed through international treaties designed to protect the world's oceans.
