During the night a hospital fort of boxes wasconstructed on ground a little higher than the zerebaand in rear of the right front, and occupied by a de-tachment of the Mounted Infantry. Early on the morning of the 17th a fort was con-structed on the right front corner of the position withsaddles and biscuit and bully beef boxes, in which oneof the three guns was placed in position.
