Duty Below Decks. Members of the Black Gano, aboard the lightship No. 107, apply necessary oil to the cross head guide of the main engine. During storms, the engine must keep turning, to prevent possible anchor drag. The position of a lightship is fixed, and any deviation means danger to the ships which depend on the lightship's beacon. The 107 has Portsmouth, Va. [Virginia], for her home port. The name of the 107 is "Winter Quarter".
