Telson lackingstatocyst. Type species Paranthura costana Bate & Westwood, 1868. Remarks Paranthura is probably the most speciose genus of the Paranthuridae, withmany of the species being superficially very similar. Species reported to havewide geographical distributions should be viewed with suspicion; closeexamination and attention to fine details of tail-fan structure especially willprobably reveal several restricted species masquerading under long-establishednames. 186 ANNALS OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN MUSEUM 2.
