It is to be lamented that the private character of this gallant officer was deeplystained by his attachment to the wile of Sir William Hamilton, the English en>bassador at Naples, which not only separated him from his wife, who ill de-eerved this desertion, but hurried him on one occasion, in order to gratify theheartless and profligate Lady Hamilton, to an act of cruelty foreign to his realnature—the hanging of Admiral Caraccioli from the yard-arm of his ship.
