Krudttårnet, the Powder Magazine. Fredrikshavn. Denmark.

Krudttårnet, the Powder Magazine. Fredrikshavn. Denmark. The Powder Magazine, was the central part of the citadel, constructed during the 17th century. The citadel served as a naval support point during the Great Nordic War (1709-1720) and the war against England (1807-1814). Today only the tower remains, which host a small naval museum. Originally the tower was situated directly to the sea, but during the centuries the town, Fladstrand and later renamed Frederikshavn, developed around it and the tower became cornered between large factories. In 1974 it was decided to move the tower some 270 meters inland. The tower was over the next 13 month moved in one piece to its present location.
