Interior of the Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey

Hagia Sophia was a Church, then a mosque with the Turkish capture of Constantinople, then turned into a museum in 1931. Christian imagery which had been covered over was revealed, and now sits side by side with Islamic symbols in the building. Here we see the minbar, that is, the Muslim pulpit, and in the background a mosaic of Jesus and Mary.
