Harder's gland, the complement of the lachrymal gland, is well-developed in the recent Amphibia and Reptilia and the lower mammals. It seems highly probable that it was equally well-developed in Seymouria and other early tetrapoda. It may have been even better developed than the lachrymal. Jugal. The jugal forms the inferior and about one-third of the pos- terior border of the orbit. It joins the maxillary in an oblique suture in the infraorbital region. It joins the lachrymal in a short suture at the anterior-inferior angle of the orbit. Posteriorly it joins the squa- mosal and postorbital. Ventrally it joins the quadratojugal which excludes it from the lower border of the skull by meeting the Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original Harvard University.
