PULP INSULATION FOR TELEPHONE CABLES 11 Defective Wire It is necessary to mark defects in the completed wire by placing awhite tag in the winding in order that repairs may be made by thetwister operators, as there is no opportunity to make them at the pulpmachine take-ups. Short breaks in the insulation were often passed. These characteristics may be modified somewhat by choiceof materials and methods of manufacture but they cannot be entirelycontrolled. A brief survey of these characteristics may be of interestto give a better picture of the possibilities and limitations of theproduct. This survey co\ers only 24 and 26 wire as these arethe sizes which have been run almost exclusively to date. It shouldbe noted, however, that wires ranging in a size from 19 to 28 been covered successfully. Some of the physical characteristics of the insulation are sho
