May 8th 1932 - A photographic portrait of Paul Doumer , President of the French Republic who was assassinated by Dr Paul Gorguloff, a mentally unstable Russian immigrant . --- Joseph Athanase Doumer, commonly known as Paul Doumer (1857 – 1932), was the President of France from 13 June 1931 until his assassination in Paris. He was visiting Paris for the opening of a book fair at the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild. He is the only French president to die of a gunshot wound.
