Acrossthe Point, extending fromshore to shore, was to bea strong line of three bas-tioned fronts, with twoadvanced redoubts occu-pying higher elevations ;and within this inclosing line were to be ten heavy batteries, along therocky shore, to fire seaward upon ships endeavoring to force a passagethrough the channel. The entire armament of the work was to be threehundred and eighty-six pieces of artillery of all calibers.
