California's Mono Lake

The water level in Mono Lake has dropped due to siphoning water from feeder streams. This process has revealed calcium carbonite structures known as Tufas! The lake itself is very salty, much more than the ocean, and is home to brine shrimp and brine flies. It looks dead, but is actually teeming with life.
