Council Grove, Kansas - The Guardian of the Grove, a bronze statue by Thomas Mark Sampsel, honoring a warrior from the Kaw, or Kanza, tribe, for which the state of Kansas is named. The Kaw were forcibly removed from the area and sent to Oklahoma in 1873. The statue stands on the historic Santa Fe Trail.
