It is oneof the insect-eating family. The agouta is very silent and wary. Should it hear anyone approaching the spot where it is feeding, it willlisten to ascertain from which direction the noise comes, and then sneak qui-etly off the opposite way. Its front claws are long and slightly curled, andare used for digging up roots, etc., and holding its prey.
