Fukeng meteorite. Cut and polished slice of the Fukeng pallasite (stone-iron meteorite) discovered in the Gobi Desert, China. Pallasites originate from the boundary between a planet's core and its mantle. They are composed of iron-nickel (grey) and olivine (yellow). They formed following the break-up of protoplanets in the early solar system, or from later catastrophic planetary impacts.
