Dentistry. Satirical artwork titled 'Without Effort', showing a dentist and his assistant removing a patient's tooth in a public display area. Modern dentistry developed in the 17th and 18th centuries, but was still practised by travelling quacks and charlatans during the 19th century. This French artwork was originally published in 1817. Artwork from the German book 'Die Karikatur und Satire in der Medizin' (Caricature and Satire in Medicine, 1921) by the German art historian and physician Eugen Hollander (1867-1932).
