Having taken this general survey of the Indianrace, it is proposed to enter upon the history of theUnited States and follow it chronologically, fromthe earliest settlements to date. It may be addedthat between Mexico aud Canada, nothing of im-portance to subsequent events occurred before theseventeenth century.
