The Doves Bindery English (London), 1899 White pigskin, blindtooled on front board with large central diaper panel in a border of vines; the back is covered with a very large lozenge and leaf pattern. A masterpiece of 19th century binding, the 'Kelmscott Chaucer' was produced by the Doves Bindery in a variety of trade and special bindings. This example was designed by Morris in collaboration with T. J. CobdenSanderson, who had established the Doves Bindery in 1893 opposite the Kelmscott Press. Broxb. Works. 1896.
