Lateral to the rectum and recto-vaginal fold is the para- rectal fossa, which is in turn bounded laterallj' by a peritoneal fold conveying utero-vaginal blood vessels. The lateral recto- vaginal folds and broad ligaments of the uterus are extremely thin and more or less transparent to translucent. By means of serial microscopical sections bimdles of smooth nmscle fibers.
