A small German war chest, circa 1700 Rectangular sheet iron body with iron strap fittings. Fake keyhole with richly decorated escutcheon at the front. Two movable side handles. The hinged lid with central keyhole, spring-loaded cover plate. Lock mechanism consisting of four locks, chaplet with preserved ward and original hollow shank key. Screw-mounted cover plate with engraved and blued rocaille decoration. The interior coated with old red lead paint.
